We use schools and facilities between Lansdowne and Brambleton on a nightly basis. The exact location of your child's practice is not predetermined. It will be based on who their coach is once teams are formed and where they will practice.
The short answer is maybe. We make every effort to keep the HEAD coach at a school in close proximity to where they live. We do not make the same consideration for all of the other players on their team. Meaning if you are not a head coach and live closer to route 7 you may have a practice that takes you to Brambleton each week and vice versa.
Teams are drafted based on the information provided at registration, should the night in which your family has conflicts changes between the time of registration and the time that teams are drafted (usually early/mid-October), it is incumbent upon the family to notify the league of the change via email so that we may update the records. The deadline to request changes to your conflict night is October 15th of that season. Requests to move players due to other commitments (arts, sports, religious education, etc) will not be accommodated once teams are drafted as it would adversely impact the balance of skill across the age group as well as directly impact other families.
Practices will vary based on the results of the draft and the team your child is selected to. Practices occur on each week night (M-F). Once teams are formed, the practice night for your child typically doesn't change unless there is a school event that prevents them from using the gym that evening. We make every effort to have the elementary grades practice from 6:30-8:00pm and the middle school grades practice from 8:00-9:30pm.
Games are by and large played on Saturdays. Game times and locations will vary week to week. There is an occasional week night game during the season.
When two parents want to coach together and both parents have a child playing in the age group, we do not allow a head coach to preselect their assistant coach prior to the draft. If the assistant coach is not also a parent of a player in the age group, they are welcome to assist.
No. All of our age groups are determined by the GRADE of the player. Meaning if they are in 3rd grade, they will play in Boys 3 and so on.
Assuming the need for coaches still exists, YES. However, should your child tryout for and be selected to the middle school team (applies to grades 6th to 8th) - as someone who volunteers and child was subsequently allowed to play ahead of others on the wait list; you will still be obligated to coach in our house league division.
Each registered player will receive a game jersey, 10 game season and at minimum a weekly practice (subject to weather and LCPS related cancellations). Those selected for the middle school travel teams will incur an additional cost after being selected. Registration costs for the 2023-2024 season are $200 plus a $25 fundraising fee until July 31st. After July 31st the registration cost increases to $225 plus the $25 fundraising fee.
As part of your registration you are affirming having read both of our league rules and FAQs prior to registering your child(ren).
As a league we draft teams based on skill and ability - consideration for neighbors, the desire to carpool with other families and placement of players among classmates is NOT something we consider nor take into consideration.
Practices will be held in any number of the schools between Lansdowne and Brambleton; we do not draft teams based on where a child lives - this means you could likely live in Lansdowne and have practice in Brambleton or vice versa. The only way to guarantee a placement close to where you live is to be a HEAD coach for the league.
The Fee will go up after July 31st when we fill any and all remaining space available. You will incur an additional $25 fundraising fee to offset the need to exchange cash for our annual tip off tournament raffle and "give back" tournament.
